Inspiration:

Since everyone has been in a similar situation of quarantines and shutdowns, this can be a good time to reconnect with former friends.  An easy way to initiate the reconnection is to ask your friend how she is doing with the Covid situation.  You can go on to say that even though the two of you haven’t talked in a while, you wanted to check on her to see how she is doing.
This initial conversation can help open the door to learn about other details in her life so the two of you can reconnect.

Don’t let the amount of time passed to be an obstacle to reaching out.  Right now, more than ever, we need each other.  We all can benefit from encouragement and reassurance that someone is thinking about us.
A simple check-in with someone can make a world of difference.  You may be the one person to bring hope to a specific person that is hurting.
Here is an example of a simple check-in that you can send to someone you haven’t talked to in a while.
“Hey _____________,
I know it has been a while since we have talked but I wanted to see how you are doing during this crazy time.  I’d love to hear from you and reconnect.”

God’s Truth:

God wants us to be connected to other people and have quality friendships.  He has designed us to be in fellowship with each other.  By ignoring our need for connection, we can quickly become isolated and lonely.  It may seem that it is hard to be lonely when you have a house full of people and so many responsibilities, but even with all those things, loneliness can creep in.  God’s truth is for us to fill up on Him first and take the overflow of His love to share with others.
“Therefore, encourage one another and build each other up.” I Thessalonians 5:11a

Your Truth:

It is extremely easy for all of us to have tunnel vision and only focus on our own situation.  We can convince ourselves that we will make changes when things settle down, when life isn’t so busy, when the kids are older, after work gets less busy, etc.  However, there will always be distractions in our lives to take us away from connecting with others.    Without intention, life will continue with all its demands.  Our truth often doesn’t align with God’s truth in regard to connection with others.  God calls us to be in community with others on a consistent basis, but we can justify all the reasons why we shouldn’t.  The bottom line is that we are responsible for quality connections without all the excuses.  Start today by reconnecting with a former friend.

Action Plan:

Decide on one former friend to re-connect with.

Choose how you will communicate – phone, email, text, social media.

In your communication, ask how she has been doing with the current situation of Covid.

Be a listener.

Keep the focus on her situation so you can encourage her even more.

Follow-up.  Put a time in your calendar to check in again so the two of you can start connecting more often.

Remember that connecting is ALWAYS worth your time and energy.
