One of the biggest obstacles to staying positive I’ve found, is all the negativity our minds get flooded with on a daily basis. There is only bad news on TV. The newspapers are flooded with all sorts of bad things happening, and even social media is a big trigger point for negativity when we start comparing our lives to those Instagram lives online.
The big question we need to ask ourselves is, what do we fill our minds with?
What does God tell us to fill our minds with? In Ephesians 4:8 Paul writes: Whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable – if anything is excellent or praiseworthy – think about such things. How different the world would be if everyone was focusing on these things, instead of filling our minds with worry, fear and negativity.
He tells us to fill our minds with good things. And that is step 1!

Here are my top 3 ways to not just BE more positive, but to also STAY more positive:
STEP 1:
Fill your mind with good things. It’s not worth it to constantly dwell on the bad things goings on around you. Rather fill your mind with encouragement from others, inspiration from good role models and the truth from His Word.
STEP 2:
Take captive all those negative thoughts. Remember that your thoughts are just that: THOUGHTS! Not facts. When you notice your thinking going down a path of negativity, stop and investigate those thoughts. Stop them in their tracks and take them captive.
STEP 3:
Replace those negative thoughts, with positive ones. This is the step where you consciously choose to stop focussing on the bad and replace those negative thoughts with positive perspective.

Given our natural tendency to focus on the negative, we can all use a little help to stay positive.
