WHAT IS REAL CONNECTION? Post #1 in the Real Connection Series
Challenge:
How Do We Know What Real Connection Is?
REALity:
I had 3 babies in 4 years. During the early years, the only real connection I had was to dirty diapers, runny noses, and overflowing dirty laundry baskets. Babies, bottles, and bottoms were my life. When our family would go to church on Sunday mornings, women would see me with little monkeys hanging from my arms and comment that they ‘remembered those days. I always hated hearing that because if they truly remembered those times then they would be at my house offering to watch the kids while I took a bath or did laundry.

Inspiration:
As the Bible says, there is a season for everything. Even though the early years of child-rearing can leave you craving more adult interaction, the later years of child-rearing can leave you lonely and lost without any real connections. So much of our lives have been spent raising children that when the kids become independent and less demanding of our time, we don’t know how we can now fit back into life.
The great news is that you will be the creator of your connections. With kids no longer demanding so much of your time, you can choose which areas in your life you want to focus on. Even if you are an introvert and connections don’t come easy, you can take baby steps in creating a more fulfilled life. (We will examine this more in the action plan below).
Very simply, a real connection is any type of sincere relationship that is fulfilling to you. With real connections, quality is more important than quantity. A real connection could be with a family member, a neighbor, another woman from the gym, a person from church, a mom from your kids’ school, or a co-worker.
Also, a real connection with another does not necessarily mean a best friend or super close friendship. It means having a circle of people that you share an interest with and can rely on for support and motivation when you need it.
The Word of Truth:
In Luke chapter 1, the angel Gabriel is sent to Mary to tell her she is going to have an immaculate conception and give birth to a son. God knows that Mary is afraid but faithful. He understands that there was no one on Earth who has ever been in this exact situation. He instructs Mary to go see her cousin, Elizabeth, who is also pregnant. This was another miracle since Elizabeth and her husband were both very old and past the time of natural conception.
Both women were a part of God’s miracles of motherhood at the same time. This is no coincidence. God in His sovereignty planned for these two faithful women to lean on each other during their unique situations. Mary stayed with Elizabeth for 3 months during their pregnancies so they could share, connect, and grow in their relationship with God.
This is proof that God values a connection with each one of us as well as with each other.
